Hegemony, unlike the concept of ideology, was not a fixed or rigid category instead any group or class could in theory gain hegemonic control over society at a certain time. Gramsci’s writing on hegemony also reflects upon the institutions which function as cultural intermediaries through which hegemony is secured.
